Yuzhang · Porcelain Charm · Wuyuan Painting — A Seven-Day Journey to Discover the Beauty of Northern Jiangxi

7 Days

Nanchang, Jingdezhen, and Wuyuan together compose a magnificent scroll of Northern Jiangxi. Nanchang forms the heroic prologue—by the Gan River, Tengwang Pavilion sings a thousand-year prelude, and the revolutionary flame of Bayi Square still pulses through this “City of Heroes.” Jingdezhen is the flowing centerpiece—where millennial kiln fires have never gone out, turning humble clay into porcelain as warm as jade. Here, creativity and tradition coexist in every breath of the “Porcelain Capital.” Wuyuan is the tranquil finale—a pastoral painting of white-walled villages nestled among green hills. In spring and autumn, seas of rapeseed blossoms or fiery red maples tint this ink-wash landscape with quiet brilliance. From the grand vigor of the city, to the soul of craftsmanship, to the serenity of the countryside—these three destinations together express Jiangxi’s strength, spirit, and dream.

Your journey begins beside the Gan River, where a thousand-year-old pavilion opens the prologue. At Tengwang Pavilion, Wang Bo’s poetic scene—“the setting sun flies with a solitary goose, autumn waters share one color with the vast sky”—unfolds before your eyes. At the August 1 Uprising Memorial Hall, hear the gunshot that changed China’s history. When night falls, fountains dance to music at Qiushui Square, and ancient pavilions mirror modern towers across the river—a dialogue spanning a thousand years.

Leaving the riverside city, you’ll enter the artistic sanctuary of earth and fire. At the Ancient Kiln Folk Museum, masters shape eternity from clay with calloused hands; under the red arches of the Imperial Kiln Museum, shards of porcelain whisper stories of sacrifice in pursuit of perfection. In the creative market at the Sculpture Porcelain Factory, feel the warmth of handmade art—or mold your own clay memory on a pottery wheel.

Finally, your journey arrives at a living ink painting. In Huangling Ancient Village, every window is lined with red peppers and golden corn, forming China’s most beautiful “autumn drying” scene. In Shicheng, red maples blaze between white walls and gray tiles, while Jujing Village’s circular paths lead you through centuries of history. When the sunset gilds the horse-head roofs, you’ll understand: this land guards not only scenery, but also the deepest nostalgia in Chinese hearts.

From Nanchang’s heroic river city, to Jingdezhen’s craftsmanship and art, and finally to Wuyuan’s pastoral dream, this seven-day journey is more than movement through space—it’s a pilgrimage from history to artistry, and finally, to the heart.

What you take home is not only photos, but a timeless conversation with millennia of civilization.

Day 01 :
Ascend the Pavilion and Cherish the Past — Night View of the Gan River

Visit the “No.1 Pavilion under Heaven”—Tengwang Pavilion. Climb to admire the grand view where “the setting sun flies with the lone wild goose.” Inside, study murals, couplets, and exhibitions to understand its history of nine destructions and nine rebuilds. Then head to Qiushui Square to see Asia’s largest musical fountain, and stroll the riverside to enjoy the glittering “Two Banks” night view—ancient and modern blending in perfect harmony.

Day 02 :
Red Memories and Old Street Life

Visit Bayi Square and the August 1 Uprising Memorial Hall, birthplace of the People’s Liberation Army and a key site of revolutionary history. Stroll through the Wanshou Palace Cultural Block, built around the thousand-year Tiezhu Wanshou Taoist Temple, reviving the ancient city’s charm. Bluestone lanes, antique buildings, local snacks, and creative shops make it ideal for a slow, immersive walk. End the evening at Shengjin Pagoda, tranquil under warm light.

Day 03 :
(Nanchang → Jingdezhen) — Experience the Millennium Porcelain Capital

Visit the China Ceramics Museum, which displays treasures from the Neolithic period to modern times. Don’t miss the iconic Yuan Blue-and-White Peony Vase. In the afternoon, explore Taoxichuan Creative District, where red-brick factories and towering chimneys blend with modern design. Experience handmade ceramics, then visit the Imperial Kiln Site Museum and enjoy the evening light and shadows over its curved architecture.

Day 04 :
Searching for the Misty Blue of Rain — Yaoli Ancient Town

Drive to Yaoli Ancient Town. Start at the Cheng Family Ancestral Hall, with exquisite brick and wood carvings, then stroll along the Yaoxi River, lined with Ming–Qing houses and ancient docks. Watch locals washing by the river for a glimpse of daily life. In the morning mist or after rain, the town becomes ethereal—its untouched beauty lies in its simplicity and peace, the true poetic essence of “sky blue waiting for rain.”

Day 05 :
Huangling Autumn Drying and Village Charm

Head to Huangling Village in Wuyuan for an immersive experience of China’s unique “Autumn Drying” tradition—bright crops drying on terraces form vivid patterns against white Hui-style houses. Stroll through the ancient streets, browse craft shops, and sample local snacks. Visit Huaxi Water Street and the glass skywalk for thrilling views over terraces and valleys. Stay overnight to enjoy Huangling’s night scenery, where thousands of lights shimmer in the valley.

Day 06 :
Cliffs, Dreams, and Fairy Valleys

Visit Wangxian Valley, a cliffside dreamlike town. Walk along streams and wooden paths, admire waterfalls and forest pools, and visit Yanpu Old Street, the Soy Sauce Workshop, and Brown Sugar Workshop for glimpses of restored traditional crafts. At night, as the lights illuminate the valley, the scene turns surreal—like stepping into a fantasy drama world, dazzling and romantic.

Day 07 :
A Private Morning in a Silent Valley

Enjoy a quiet morning before the site opens to the public—just birdsong, running water, and fresh mountain air. It’s the best time for walking or photography. Stroll the old streets again or sip tea on your homestay terrace in peace. Return to Nanchang in the afternoon, ending your seven-day journey.
